One of mums old friends is away house sitting and so has very kindly offered up her place in London for me to stay at for a week. She had mentioned this at mums funeral but I completely forgot. So when she got in touch to remind me I thought I would take the opportunity to head to London for a week, which is a refreshing change to all the quick visits I have been doing over the last few years. Having a whole week in the big smoke is something I have not done for a while!
So I reached out to friends that I have not seen in a while and that includes some I have not seen in years. I stayed in North Finchley which was a blast from the past, as well as hanging out it Hampstead and Portobello Road. I also take time to go explore some of my favourite gallery spaces, heading to both Tate Britain and Tate Modern. Mum always took us to galleries form a young age and as a teen I had membership to the Tate which I have renewed as an ode to mum. I love heading up to the members bar too at Tate Modern with the view of London.
The Zanele Muholi exhibition at Tate Modern, is fantastic. I have now been three times. They are an absolutely fantastic photographer and this exhibition has captivated me. Their work especially the self portraits are not only inspirational but striking. The use of everyday objects has been done so well and the use of black and white photography with these items addresses issues of race and representation. I also check out Tate Britain where the Photographing the 80s exhibition is on. Again great work and very inspirational, this piece below of the Bank of England note is their work.
