It’s my last day in Washington D.C and sadly due to the rain I never made it to the Abraham Lincoln memorial. So I wake up early, grab some breakfast then stomp down on a quick (40min) march to the memorial.. Before 9 am I have been and am leaving, and I am glad I got here so early because as I am leaving the crowds become huge already! I make my way back to the hostel with a brief pit stop at the post office, to send off my last bits of post form the U.S.A, check out of the hostel and swing by the Capitol building to get some good photos. It just would not of looked so good in the miserable grey rain yesterday!

I get my train to Philadelphia where I am staying at a hostel again but I am meeting later with an old friend from Barnet College (who I haven’t seen in almost 10 years!). He now lives over here and has done for around 5 years, so it will be interesting to hear what it is like living over here! Before meeting Matt after his class finishes I go to visit Independence Hall, which is where the Declaration of Independence was signed and check out the harbour and get myself a Philly Cheese Steak!! When asked which cheese I want, I asked which is the most traditional one.. I was told this was the Cheez Whizzz… My response was ‘what the fake plastic stuff?’ She tells me this stuff does not come from a can and although reluctant at first, I go with the flow and have the Whizz… The sandwich was amazing, even with the whizz…

Later that evening I head to meet Matt at a bar. He fills me in on life in America but also some interesting stories about Philly but more so some interesting stuff about Pennsylvania. Which is actually home to one of the largest Amish populations. The middle of Penn State is also apparently pretty ‘redneck’. I also made a quick stop at the bar from ‘It’s Always Sunny’ on my way out in the morning en route to the train station!
